Your Instructor
Susan Blackwood has a passion for teaching artists. Her combination of enthusiasm, encouragement and Classical training is the hallmark of her teaching.
Blackwood started studying art at a very early age, continued her studies in art and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Northern Illinois University. She also studied painting at the American Art Academy in Chicago, IL. Her 47-year painting career started in 1972 winning many awards in Museum Shows, Nationally and Internationally, as an oil painter as well as a watercolorist. She has been a professional art instructor since 1975. For 32 years, she was a professional watercolorist, then, in 2003, she ventured forth into the thick and gooey medium of oils and fell in love with it. Her oils have been in many national shows and museums, winning top awards.
