Susan Blackwood has a passion for teaching artists. Her combination of enthusiasm, encouragement and Classical training is the hallmark of her teaching.
Blackwood started studying art at a very early age, continued her studies in art and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Northern Illinois University. She also studied painting at the American Art Academy in Chicago, IL. Her 47-year painting career started in 1972 winning many awards in Museum Shows, Nationally and Internationally, as an oil painter as well as a watercolorist. She has been a professional art instructor since 1975. For 32 years, she was a professional watercolorist, then, in 2003, she ventured forth into the thick and gooey medium of oils and fell in love with it.
